My newest collobrative artshow with Joanna Colbentz, BACKBONE, was a smashing success! Joanna and I poured so much heart into this and we are very please with the results. If you missed it, here is a video of what the show was like.

Joanna Colbentz, owner of Dollface, is my partner for BACKBONE, and a woman who gets shit done. She knows how to know everyone, treat them right, and she knows style more than most of you ever will. All those qualities are awesome in their own right, but on top of that, she is a talented master at creating cut and sew clothing. She creates things you will never forget. Now if you know her, I just told you things you already know. If you don't know her yet, you will.

I originally met Joanna for an art show we did together a while back called Bad Friday. I was incredibly impressed with her professionalism, artistic ability, and passion which in the art world is a rare combination. After that show, it was obvious we had to be partners in crime.

For BACKBONE, we are collobrating in a way that will create an experience I don't think has ever been done before. With each painting I do, which revolves around what it means to have backbone, she is creating an outfit that directly corresponds in color scheme and message. On top of that, each outfit will be worn by a live, beautiful model. With the painting and corresponding physical outfit side by side, it's really an amazing sight.

Her creative style and inspiration ranges from Indie/dirt rocker to Native American, gothic/gypsy. Her passion to create, design and bring together talented artists, musicians and like minded creators has led her to orchestrate and produce more then 20 shows throughout Florida in the last 4 years.

Joanna is always seeking inspiration and on the go, as she whips her measuring tape, schemes another creative endeavor and grinds away at the bit on her sewing machine.

The video was filmed/edited by the amazing Chloe Reyes, arranged by Joanna Colbentz, and features me painting Maggie Chadack's back in an Alley way, late night in St. Pete.

What makes this video somewhat funny to me is that, while filming, I was completely blind. Due to it being in the asshole of night, we had to have some intense lighting. Unfortunately, the only way we were able to light up Maggie's back was if the insanely bright light was aimed right in my eyes.

I didn't even know what I painted until they turned off the spot light.

Anyway, on behalf of the Backbone team, we would like to thank Collective Gallery for letting us shoot in their alley way, Pale Horse Design for lending us stage lighting, and the city of St Pete for being awesome/sketchy.

What the hell is Backbone?

Backbone is a collaborative gallery show between Joanna Colbentz and myself where, combining our talents, we hope to inspire all who see it with a sense of unstoppable determination.

Pretty lofty goal, I'm sure.

To attempt to accomplish this, I am doing 10 brand new paintings representing scenes of what I think backbone truly means, and Joanna will be outfitting 10 beautiful models in hand sewn surrealist fashion that will bring each painting to life.

A great deal of hard work and passion is going into this project, and each day I pour all of my soul into painstakingly crafting each painting to a degree that only pure inspiration would allow. Joanna and I are both very proud of the work we are doing, and can't wait to show you.

Incidentally, all the coffee I'm drinking has caused my blood pressure to go up.

The show will be held at the amazing Collective Gallery, and is ALL AGES, but for the adults we'll have free booze for you. The show will go from 7-11pm, but show up early because the first 50 guest receive a free signed print and gift bag, full of gifts.

We will keep the show bumping with music by Dj Nemesis.

When the show ends, there will be a backbone AFTER PARTY.

For the after party, I will be having a SECOND art show that night because obviously I hate sleeping, and don't care how much overworking kills me.

Joanna's models will be present, rocking her lucid dreaming apparel.

Dj Nemesis will bring his beats, and throw down a second set for you to jam to.

There will be a hell lots of drink specials.

And most importantly, all of you, who hopefully by then, are all best buds of each other.

Sometimes moments of life demand us to step up, exercise strength in character, and most of all, show some fucking backbone. Backbone, metaphorically speaking, has implication deep in all our decisions such as putting your foot down, not being afraid of the truth, and not betraying your integrity.

From these notions come the collaborated art show Backbone. Combining the painting talents of Landon Richmond of know no truth, and the cut and sew designs of Joanna Coblentz of Dollface, Backbone will present separate paintings and surreal fashion to create a cohesion that brings the surreal physical, and the physical surreal.

This visual experience will provoke thought, emotion and questions we all face in life. A journey through our most private feelings, from weakness to triumph. A reminder of what it takes to stand firm and rise above.

In between each quiet or slow moment, I sit and remember.
We look back to moments like these, time and time again, when we were young feeling, and life real from heartbreak. When the moments of autopilot were gone, music affected you more, and you had to let it out, rather than wish there was something to let out.

Your sense of self aches, because something so close to you is gone, and now the newly bare spot shivers in the chill of it's nakedness. With nothing to do but move forward, aching upon waking, self discovery creeps it's way in. Inner strength begs for it's chance.

The holidays have thankfully come to a close, and I want to thank everyone who helped support my art through it. It's been an intense month for me. In between a heavy work schedule, I've encountered some intense moments of personal growth that has the strings to my heart plucked. The sound it has made is all I hear, and all I can think about. It's the fuel of a poet, and the muse of an artist. So I'm gonna focus on it for a while, and see what comes from it.

In the meantime, I just want to remind everyone that the KnowNoTruth Gallery is still open, and will be running until January 27th in Sarasota Square Mall. I will be there open to close, 7 days a week, to share my art with you.

Soon after the kiosk closes, I will be having an art show February 11th with the wonderful Joanna Coblentz. We will be combining our talents and revealing several new, never before seen pieces of art that all revolve around what it means to have and show backbone.

There are many other things on the way, and going on. A new shirt will be dropping this week, and I'm still working on my book which should be out by the end of march.

In between each quiet or slow moment, I sit and remember.

So lately I've been working my butt off with 80 hour weeks, and will be doing so till the end of January. In between running the KnowNoTruth Gallery, pumping out new t-shirts and prints at the rate of a madman, painting a new series, and howling at the moon, I took a break to make some updates on all of these going ons.

First, the Know No Truth Gallery is open and will be running until January 27th. It is located in front of Macy's in the Sarasota Square Mall in Sarasota, Florida. There will be brand new T-shirts, never before released prints, and other things that are probably just as exciting.

The online store is just as exciting with its happenings too, because I just added 15 new prints and 8 new shirts! Take a look at the picture below, and take a peek of some of this crazy nonsense.
Buy these so I can buy bread, and maybe a dinosaur.

Cool stuff.... In terms of events, this is whats going down. Saturday december 8th, I'm live painting at COMMUNION @ The Roosevelt 2.0 - Tampa.It will be an awesome event with live music, a fashion show featuring the styles of Joanna Coblentz, a photo disaplay from Chloe Reyes, and several other things.

Sunday December 11th, I will have a booth at the Atomic Holiday Bazaar where I will be selling, and signing prints. Last year, I saw people running around naked which made this the coolest craft show ever. I think I do some streaking this year too- I hope you come and join me!

Yo. November is gonna be a pretty crazy month. First off, if your in the Boston area, I have a ongoing display of originals at the Ula Cafe. All I know for sure about this place is they are cool with my art being there, play Micheal Jackson at night, and serve some pretty good bold coffee. Check it out if you get a chance.

Next, some pretty exciting news for me. I'm opening the Know No Gallery again, like I did last Holiday Season. It will be running from November 15 to January 27th.

It's really just a kiosk in the middle of a shopping mall. But here's the kicker- I'm setup directly next to Santa Clause. I found out the Sarasota Square Mall Santa is an Ex-Green Beret, and put a hooligan in an arm lock last year. He was covered in bells, and they sounded angry when this happened.

Last year, I even got a chance to sit on his lap.

Anyway, in the Kiosk I will have 7 brand new t-shirts, never before released prints, and lots of free headbanging. Here's a sneak of 3 of 7 shirts:

When I was 10, I was obsessed with horror movies. I watched a great deal of them, and horror movies in the late 1980's did not give a fuck. They had no problem spilling fake blood and guts by the gallons all over teenagers, when all they wanted to do was drink, smoke pot, and fuck. From all these movies, it seemed to my 10 year old mind that being a teenager was dangerous, which seemed pretty awesome.

I watched pretty much all the slasher flicks before I had my Bar Mitzvah at the manly age of 13. Of all of them, John Carpenter's Halloween was my favorite. To understand why, please look at exhibit A, a quote from Dr. Loomis:

“I met him... fifteen years ago. I was told there was nothing left. No reason, no conscience, no understanding; even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, good or evil, right or wrong. I met this six-year-old child, with this blank, pale, emotionless face and, the blackest eyes... the devil's eyes! I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... evil!”

So it being Halloween, I wanted to do a Halloween painting. So I redid the original movie poster but gave it my own spin.

Well, no. That never happened. But now that your here, maybe you should read the rest of this.

I haven't shown any paintings in a short while. Last time I did, it was at a place called the Wonderbar a few months back. The paintings I put up managed to offend one of the managers, and they were taken down the day after they were hung. At the time I had a lot of negative shit going on, and having to come take down art during a windy, rainy day was frustrating as hell. It left a really bad taste in my mouth, and it's been a few months since I've last had art displayed on a wall.

So after a short run of not having my art out there, I am pretty pumped to announce two events I have coming up where I will be having art on display.

ƒirst I will have several originals on display at the Ula Gallery starting October 24th till December 4th. The art will be affordable priced, and likely to upset at least one person. And for real, the Ula Gallery is right next to the Sam Adams Brewery.
Personally, I think you should go to the brewery and get drunk, then go see my art (But I guess you could also reverse the order of operations)

Second, I will have art on display and will be live painting at BloodFeast 8 october 28th. It's a pretty amped up Halloween party with insane cash prizes to the best costume, with proceeds going to the blood bank. I live painted there last year, and was covered in blood. This year, I will be covered in something else (not sure what that exactly is yet)

I'm really glad to be showing art again. Lately I've been somewhat reclusive, but I've been painting a lot. Here are some of the newer pieces I've done, which will be on display. It's been a while since I've written here. I've produced a great deal of new work since my last post, all the while struggling with what seemed like a nasty case of artistic block. Despite the block, I kept painting. If I didn't, my mind would go frantic. So I guess I forced my self many times, and too many times to paint. It made the experience of painting bitter to me. As the taste grew worse, I felt further and further removed from what I was painting. Here are the results of that period:

While I struggled with this, the Boston police cracked down on me, and banned me from selling art on the streets. I spent a large amoun t of time selling art on the streets, so it brought to me a great deal of frustration on top of the difficulties I had painting. I ended up becoming very reclusive for a couple weeks, and did sketches that lead nowhere. It was then that one of my assistants reccommend I check out an event the Chapel of Scared Mirrors would holding in the woods of New York.

The day of the event, we had some some minor difficulties with travel, but luckily everything came through. Within 20 minutes of being there I was given 4 doses of some pretty potent LSD. As reality melted away to something new, I proceed to have an adventure that lead me to meet interesting strangers, walk alone at night in the pitch black woods, and some how end up in Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Through all of that I had a revelation. I was never blocked, I was bored of what I was painting. I realized it was time to paint something new. Within a week, I produced 7 paintings I feel are quite different from what I normally do. Here they are.

I am currently working on several projects which are keeping me pleasantly busy. First, I will be expanding my T-shirt line with 6 new shirts. If you have a favorite painting of mine you'd love to see as a t-shirt, let me know! These should hopefully be ready in time for the holidays.

Anti-viva Las Vegas

I recently went to Las Vegas, and this is what I have to say about it:

I think it's like Disney World on a bad acid trip. It's a city of hotels where there are more security cameras than the White House. Vegas wants you to lose while telling you to win. It's a place that wholly represents the Seven Deadly Sins while embracing the Catholic hypocrisy with it's attempts of being a family destination.

There is a gross waste of abundance in Vegas which can be seen from the piles of thrown out uneaten buffet food, to the golf courses which thrive in the desert due to a sprinkle system that could probably cool the sun, or solve world thirst.

There is so much that could be said about vegas, but the worst thing about it is what it brings out in people.

A late night picture I took in the casino. I was quickly tackled by a security guard for it.

It makes people fake, insecure, faded, and in some cases ruins them, all in their best clothes. There are equal amounts of billboards for 5 minute weddings as there are for divorce lawyers. People hand out newspaper length catalogues of prostitutes to anyone that walks by, indiscriminately.

Hunter S. Thompson once said that Vegas is what the world would be like on a Saturday night if the Nazi's won the war. Never in the modern world has there been a place so elegantly depraved.

Whatever happens in Vegas, stay is in Vegas. It's the regret that comes with you.

The Fake Smile.

My stupid issue with rabbits.

As children we are very impressionable, and major moments of our childhood are very likely to influnce us for the rest of our life. For me, I had a tragic moment when I was 7 that forever ruined rabbits for me. I am not scared of them (anymore), because large amounts of therapy had fixed that. Nonetheless, for me rabbits are horrible creatures.

It all began like this: I had a childhood friend who had a new pet rabbit. Being very proud of this pet, he wanted to it to show me. So, he took the white fluffy beast from its cage and held it up to my face, hoping I would enviously hold the creature myself. As I extended my short little 7 year old hands, something horrible happened. I don't know if my friend had done something to startle the rabbit, or it instantly hated me, but either way it freaked out. The creature emitted a frightenly loud, high pitched warcry and lunged for my face. It attached itself with its surprisingly vicous claws, and frantically bit my face many times over. I could do nothing but scream, and feebly bat the rabbit off.

I had no permeant physical damage, but the emotion damage was done. Since then, I really don't like rabbits. So to this day, I still draw rabbits as monsters.

Unfortantely, due to the movie, Donnie Darko, anytime someone sees a rabbit that looks like a monster, they instantly think that I copied Frank the Rabbit. This is bullshit.

I will say it here and now and hope that I never hear it again: I am not drawing Frank, I am recreating childhood trauma. I hope never to cringe as someone ignorantly makes that comparison again. Whatever.

Anyway, here is my newest painting of a rabbit. May you look at this painting with a deeper understanding of where it came from, and realize its not fucking Donnie Darko. Also, secret agents are awesome.

All this waiting- it traps us. All this waiting constricts, and resigns us to be not involved with moments of our life.

It is an ancient Mariner.

One of my newest paintings is inspired from the Samuel Coleridge poem, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner". I first read it in high school as a freshman. To be honest, I didn't really understand it back then. What really stuck with me were the drawings by Gustave Dore. The haunting level of painful detail that showed a world just beyond our binds reality was a reminder of what art could really do.

Well, there was something else that stuck with me. The last lines:

He went like one that hath been stunned,
And is of sense forlorn:
A sadder and a wiser man
He rose the morrow morn.

With each hard lesson we learn, but only after the hard lesson. Ignorance was bliss, and wisdom came only after the fact. Is it worth it, the sadness for wisdom?

I think so. In carrying that sad weight, we become stronger and capable of so much more.

I heard someone tell me this story the other day. A shoe company sends out two representatives to a south american village. They found that all the villagers did not wear shoes. They both send a separate message back to the shoe company.

The message from the first rep says, "No business to be had here, they don't wear shoes."

The message from the second rep says, "Excellent business opportunity! No one has any shoes yet!"

Every situation can be handled differently. Sometimes situations aren't handled in a way that promotes the desired outcome. I've had my heartbroken 3 times my life, 4 if you count heartbreak beyond people. Heartbreak changes you, for either good or bad; but you're never the same after heartbreak.

There is something about going through days at a time with a nonstop stabbing in your heart, all caused by emotion, that really makes you rethink things.

So recently, I rethought things. I looked at all I took for granted, or moments where I could have been more. My stubbornness became to heavy to carry, and I had to take a good look.

You take a good look, there will be an answer.

A new blog format, some info on an upcoming art show, and a brand new tshirt release.

Holy crap, I got a hell of a lot of room to write things now. The old blog format on my website allowed a paragrapher or two, but on this I can tell you a whole story. So here goes:

This is a story about things to come. Things that will involve my art.... being shown. They will be shown in an art show. It's happening this friday in Windsor, Connecticut. Might I add this story also has pictures in them. Here is the first picture, which gives all the information about this art show I speak of.

I won't tell you what to do, but you should really go. I will be there doing things that would make Dr. Hunter S. Thompson proud.

The next chapter in our story is centered around my new tshirt that I have released to the world. This tshirt is made of 100% cotton on an anvil fashion cut tshirt, and sports my art on the chest. This leads us to the second picture in our story:

Ok. I'm gonna stop doing this telling you a story spin, because it's getting lame. Anyway, I originally made this piece as a reminder to myself to not flip out on things that are trivial. In most cases, the things that bother you probably won't matter in 2 weeks. So its probably best to chill out, and save flipping out for the problems that may stick around a little bit longer.

I honestly didn't plan to share it with anyone, but when someone did see it, and how much it affected them, I decided it would be good to share it with the world. And yea, I need to make a living off my art.

That's about it all for now. I got another art show coming up soon in Boston, but I haven't got any of the details other than I know I'm a part of it.
